SITEPE 2026 Program

The National Autonomous University of Mexico, through the Institute of Economic Research (IIEc) and in collaboration with the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE) presents the International Seminar on Economic Theory and Policy, on the topic:

The eighth edition of the International Seminar on Economic Theory and Policy 2026: "Economic Policy and Sustainable Development", is an academic event that will allow participants to engage with the practices and trends of the global economy. On this occasion, it collaborates with CIDE.

In this critical space, the IIEc of UNAM aims to promote and develop economic theory and policy among researchers, professors, managers, entrepreneurs, and public administrators by linking them with the best national and international experiences and bringing participants closer to experts and their research.

We invite you to join this academic event and contribute to generating economic policy with a forward-looking vision.

Justification

Due to the current problems faced by the world population in terms of pollution and environmental degradation, it seeks to deepen the study and proposals of various key areas in environmental matters and sustainable development. In recent years, multiple problems have been observed in relation to the environment, such as the deterioration of geographical space, increasing environmental degradation and the loss of quality of life. In this context, new questions arise, such as: what is the impact of economic growth on the environment and on geographical space? What has been the response and activity of the different countries through their economic agents to solve the environmental problems in the different environmental treaties such as the Kyoto Protocol? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the different measures taken by different countries? What are the main results in ecological matters? These types of issues are a central part of contemporary economic policy and highlight the need to rethink the role of new economic policies in terms of sustainability.

Este tipo de cuestiones forman parte central de la agenta de política económica contemporánea y ponen en evidencia la necesidad de repensar el papel de las nuevas políticas económicas en materia de sustentabilidad.

Objective

The 8th edition of SITEPE aims to analyze and elucidate measures and possible solutions to the problem of environmental pollution, degradation-deterioration of the environment, which allow an improvement of humanity and its relationship with nature. As well as the improvement of the social and living conditions of the population, the reduction or elimination of poverty, the improvement of public health that is in harmony with the improvement and maintenance of good conditions of the economic geography.

• Sección 3. Financing and technology for sustainable development.
• Sección 4. Well-being and social equity, and access to environmental public goods.

Mode and venue

The event will take place on Wednesday, November 4th, and Thursday, November 5th, 2026, in person in Mexico City at the Institute of Economic Research of UNAM. Selected papers will be presented at the seminar and will receive feedback from experts on the topic. Abstracts and papers will be accepted through the SITEPE website.

The call will be published through various platforms to disseminate and invite speakers from within and outside Mexico. 

Submission of abstract and full paper

The abstract of your paper must be uploaded to https://economicas.unam.mx/sitepe as a PDF file with Times New Roman font, size 12, and line spacing of 1.5, and must follow the citation and reference style of the American Psychological Association (APA). The abstract should not exceed 250 words.

Confirmation of acceptance will be sent by email and published on the same website. Selected papers will be presented at the seminar.

Publication of papers

Selected papers may be included in the book Economic Policy and Sustainable Development, edited by IIEc-UNAM.
